Welcome to the Old Southwellian Society

The society for all alumni of the Minster School Southwell. All ex-students and teachers are welcome to join.

Welcome Note - David Loughton (President 2005)

Hello and welcome to the 'Old Southwellians' Society' home page! My name is David Loughton and I have been elected President of the society for the next two years.

The OSS was established in 1906 and was set up to provide a point of contact for ex-students of the Minster Grammar School where they could meet and maintain ties with the school after their departure.

Whilst the world has changed over the years, the reason for having such a society has not and with people further a field the argument for having a strong society becomes all the more important.

The strength of the OSS rests with its members but sadly in recent years there has been a decline in new membership to the society. In 2003 we reached the point whereby it looked as though we may have to disband, however I am happy to say the injection of 'new blood', ideas and enthusiasm the OSS does appear to be heading back to its former glory.

Each year usually sees an annual dinner, social gatherings and a newsletter for its members, however this is being added to by the introduction of the OSS Annual Garden Party which has had a fantastic impact on the society and provided a chance to recruit new members, reunite old members and make some money for charity into the bargain!

With the new school buildings planned for completion in 2007, the OSS plans to take an active role in the life of the Minster School and maintain the traditions from yesteryear, whilst making it a society for all ex-members of the Minster School to enjoy and benefit from.

Information on how to join and what else we offer can be found on the web page so however young or old are or wherever you are in the world, please feel free to join us.
